• Patna University is a public state university in Patna, Bihar, India. It was established on 1 October 1917 during the British Raj. It is the first university in Bihar and the seventh oldest university in the Indian subcontinent in the modern era. It offers various undergraduate and postgraduate degree-level courses.
• Faculties and Departments: Patna University has 30 departments organized into eight faculties: Science, Humanities, Commerce, Social Sciences, Education, Law, Fine Arts, and Medicine.

• This faculty consists of the departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Statistics, and Geology.

• This faculty consists of the departments of English, Hindi, Bangla, Sanskrit, Maithili, Persian, Philosophy, Arabic, and Urdu.

• This faculty consists of the departments of History, Geography, Psychology, Ancient Indian History and Archaeology, Economics, Personnel Management & Industrial Relations, Sociology, Political Science, and Public Administration.

• Each of these faculties comprises only one department, namely, Law, Education, Commerce, Fine Arts, and BDS.

Admission Details 2025

• 4-Year UG Programmes (Regular & Self-Finance): Online submission of application forms for admission to 4-year undergraduate programmes in Arts (Honours), Science (Honours), and Commerce (Honours) under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) will begin on 24 April 2025 and continue until 23 May 2025. Admission is based on marks obtained in Intermediate or +2 examination.
• 3-Year UG Vocational (Self-Finance) Programmes: Online applications for the following 3-year vocational programmes will also be accepted from 24 April 2025 to 23 May 2025:
  • Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA)
  • Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA)
  • Bachelor in Mass Communication
  • Bachelor in Biotechnology
  • Bachelor in Functional English
  • Bachelor in Environmental Science
  Admission to these programmes is based on marks obtained in Intermediate or +2 examination.
• 4-Year Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA): Online applications for the BFA programme will be accepted from 24 April 2025 to 23 May 2025. Admission is based on marks obtained in an entrance test conducted by Patna University.
• Application Process: Separate application forms are required for regular and vocational (self-finance) courses. Candidates applying for regular courses under sports or fine arts quotas must select the appropriate category and pay the requisite fee.

Who Can Apply

• Students who have passed the Intermediate or +2 examination from the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), Central Board for Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), or any other national/state boards or government-recognized university are eligible to apply.
• Applications must be submitted online via the Common Application Form (CAF) available at www.pup.ac.in. The application fee is Rs.1100/- for all categories, with an additional Rs.50/- per form. Payment is accepted through online mode only.
